It was bound to happen

Bean got her first "real" boo boo today. Jayme had just pulled in the garage and she said, "I'm gonna hide from Papa", and proceeded to run into the living room and fell on a magazine rack that sits beside the sofa. I thought she may have busted her lip on it but when I picked her up, we saw that her chin had split open. She was so incredibly tough and brave. She cried in the initial moments but then calmly layed on the floor while we put a band-aid on and explained to her that we were going to have to see a doctor.

We first drove to a nearby family practice/walk-in clinic, knowing that if we went to the ER we would be so low on the totem pole that we'd probably be waiting for hours there before we were seen. I actually doubted that they would be able to do anything, (to me her cut looked pretty deep) but after he took a look at it, the doctor said they could do it there with surgical glue and some butterfly sutures. Thank God. It was a very calm and quick process. Though I hate for it to have happened at all, the circumstances surrounding it couldn't have worked out better. The experience at the clinic was a very good one, Cecily had just been fed shortly before we left the house so we were not dealing with a fussy hungry baby while we were out, and within the hour after we left it began snowing here. It took most people an average of 2-4 hours to get home from work tonight due to the weather. I can't imagine driving to or even from the ER in all that traffic and the stress of slippery roads. The Lord is awesome!

I had initially planned on staying in the room with my baby but after the doctor dismissed one of his employees because he said she would faint, I took my cue to leave. If someone who worked in a medical facility may faint, I surely would! So Jayme stayed in there and held her while the doctor worked on her. Not too long after, a nurse brought Evangeline back out to me all brave-faced, donning new stickers on her shirt and hands, and a fixed up little chin. But no Jayme. The nurse told me that he was looking white-faced so they had him back there lying down and got him some water. I can't help it. I find it so funny, maybe slightly relieving to finally not be the only one. It's always me with white-coat syndrome. Jayme has had heart surgery for crying out loud and I've never seen him queasy! But something about a man and his baby girl being hurt, changes things.

We left the office and made a quick trip to Target for a special bravery prize. She picked a Strawberry Shortcake remote-controlled car. Check out the videos. She's so amazing :)
