Hide and Seek

Evangeline's favorite game of the moment. Mostly it consists of hiding behind the curtains, or by throwing the blanket over her head in the car, and of course hiding behind Papa. After which she always prompts, "where'd the baby go?" or, "Hide and seek!" and then a loud and scream and giggle when you find her.

My least favorite part of this game is when she hides somewhere in the house and even when she hears me calling for her, she remains quiet. Why do children have to go through this phase?? What part of their developmental progress does this serve? I don't think it does much except give a panic attack to their parents. She first did it around Christmas and hid behind the Christmas tree. I had walked by there several times calling her name, and there she stood, just waiting. More recently she hid behind a curtain that hides the wiring in the t.v. room. I had checked the room once but hadn't walked all the way to that corner. I walked back and what did I see? 2 black Converse peeking out from behind the curtain. Sigh of relief, scolding, and hugs.
